When actively cooling your laser is not an option. For some applications limited electrical power, volume & weight constraints or burst mode operation prevents the use of active laser cooling techniques. For these applications CEO has developed its patented passively cooled laser technology (US Patents: 6,307,871; 6,351,478; 6,570,895).
CEO's phase change heat exchanger technology provides cooling to both the laser diode arrays and the laser gain material. CEO has integrated this technology into micro lasers producing 100s of µJs at 10s of kHz to larger laser systems producing >50 mJ at repetition rates >500 Hz with laser operating durations from several seconds to minutes depending on the application.
This cooling technology is well suited for burst mode laser applications. After operation, the cooling capacity of the laser regenerates itself after a cool down peroid. The laser's operational time and cool down period can be optimized for a given application.
